Leukemia and immunodeficiency in cats are diseases caused by viruses (FeLV -Feline Leukemia virus-, and FIV -Feline Immunodeficiency virus-).
The latter, FIV, is the homologue of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus, which is what causes AIDS – Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).
They all cause a destruction of the animal’s defenses that makes them vulnerable to any other secondary infection, and also cause anemia, gingivitis-stomatitis, tumors, kidney disease … They are one of the causes of higher mortality in unvaccinated cats .
